Originally designed to support a second floor addition, this project involved the seismic retrofit of an existing unreinforced masonry building combined with a new roof system sized to support future upper level residential unit loads. The project was broken up into two phases, the first being the seismic retrofit and installation of the new roof system, the second being the upper level addition. Whether the second phase is ever realized, the phase one construction left the existing retail space with a striking steel roof that juxtaposes beautifully with the century old exposed brick wall exterior.
